From George Kanuch: "Yesterday a resident on my street (Tidball Drive) informed me of an incident at the YMCA on Beach street. She went over there to exercise at 11:00 AM and parked in the front row. Before going inside she put her purse under the front seat where it could not be seen from outside the car. When she returned to her car to go home 45 min. later, the front driver's window was broken out and her purse was gone. She called the police department, and upon responding they found that the car behind hers was also broken into.
Within 45 minutes of her discovering the crime, her credit and debit cards had been used 7 times.
Since her purse could not be seen from outside the car, it is likely that someone saw her placing it under the seat before going inside the building. This incident serves as a reminder that even though you think that you are doing the right things to not be a victim of a crime, someone may be watching you at any time. I don't go to the YMCA, so I don't know what they have for lockers for the patrons, but it would be better to lock your purse in their lockers if this is an option.
We all need to be constantly aware that there are people out there any time in any place just looking for an opportunity to commit a crime against us.
Please exercise extra caution at all times."
