EDMOND — The U.S. Secret Service continues investigating recent auto burglaries reported by Edmond soccer moms, an official said.

On Monday, Adrian Andrews, special agent in charge of the agency’s Oklahoma City office, said the Secret Service is aware of the local burglaries but cannot comment on specifics about the case since the investigation continues.

Andrews said it appears whoever is committing the burglaries is targeting women who leave their purses visible in their cars at crowded places like soccer games, fitness clubs and day care sites. Andrews encouraged residents to continue to patronize such places but urged them to either take valuables with them or lock them in the trunk of their vehicle.

Four auto burglaries were reported at the 16-field Service-Blake Soccer Complex, 1502 W. Danforth, used by the Edmond Soccer Club, according to the related incident reports.

At about 1:45 p.m. May 4, Police Officer William Wright was dispatched to take a report from a victim. She told Wright she arrived for a soccer game about 45 minutes earlier and left her purse between the rear seats covered up with a jacket, the report stated. The suspect shattered the rear passenger side window and grabbed the purse.

Wright responded to a second call about an auto burglary at the same site. Fellow Officer Gregg Regier also took two auto burglary reports from the site.

Items reported stolen from the victims’ vehicles included wallets, a $1,200 Gucci purse, a driver’s license, a Social Security card, books of checks, credit cards, other cards of value, a Coach bag, various amounts of cash and sunglasses.

Vehicles targeted were two 2011 Cadillacs, one of which was an Escalade, a 2007 GMC Yukon and a 2011 Buick. Entry was made by breaking windows. Two of the victims had left their purses between the rear seats covered up with a jacket.

Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said in a previous report the burglaries could be part of a bigger crime ring now being investigated by another agency.

Edmond Soccer Club seasons usually span 10 weeks during which at least eight games are played, according to information posted on the club’s website.
